Welcome to my Blog! Here I will write about my experiences as a SIP student.
SIP Day 1: Today was my first day at the Summer Immersion Program at
Girls Who Code! We learned how to mark-up a webpage using HTML, which is
Markup Language that serves as the basic framework of a website. What I
enjoyed most from today’s activities was the excitement I felt before
creating my very own portfolio webpage-- the one you’re looking at right
now!

SIP Day 2: Today’s activities included planning our personal portfolio
using CSS and bringing our plans to life using Glitch.com. CSS-- or
Cascading Style Sheets-- is a styling language that’s used to beautify
HTML elements on a website. CSS could be compared to the paint, furniture,
and embellishments of a house. I find it pretty cool that with just the
use of HTML and CSS, you can make a multi-page website unique to you.

SIP Day 3: Though today's lesson was a bit tougher than the previous ones,
it's amazing to look back at how much we've learned so far within the span
of 3 days. By tomorrow, I'll be able to display my next project onto this
website's "Portfolio" page! Today's project consists of constructing a
Buzzfeed-style personality quiz, using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
*
SIP Day 4: Today we continued our lesson on JavaScript-- we learned about
eventListeners, functions, and conditionals-- all factors which we will be
including in our personality projects today. My quiz consists of only 6
questions that will determine which book genre most matches your
personality. Check out the "Blog" page to take the quiz!

SIP Day 5: Today's work was nothing new, but we did go over what we will
be doing next week. In today's lesson, we celebrating all of our hard work
and completed projects. Starting from next Monday, we will be composing
our Activist Toolkit project. We will be using all the skills we learned
from this week and utilizing them in our next task.
*
SIP Day 6: Today was our first day of SIP week 2! From today on, we will
be working on our activist toolkit projects up until we get to showcase
them on Friday. Though we will just be planning out what we want our
websites to look like, I’m excited to learn new ways I can make my website
look more engaging while also educating others on a topic I’m passionate
about.

SIP Day 7: My favorite activity from today was the Sisterhood Algorithmic
Artist activity, which tested both our communication as well as drawing
skills. I started by drawing a simple picture of a house next to a pine
tree on a sunny day. After sketching out my drawing, I was to give
instructions to my group on how to recreate the picture, without actually
telling or showing them the outcome. At the end of the activity, most of
my group’s drawings looked similar to mine, except for a few details.
Because I was not exactly clear on how to draw the triangles on top of the
rectangle (for the tree), some of their trees were drawn differently. I
found this activity very interesting in that it was quite comparable to
how computers receive and act upon instructions.

SIP Day 8: In today’s meeting, we were able to share and view each other’s
projects during the Code Collaboration activity. I feel like collaboration
serves as one of the most important steps in project-building. Through
collaboration, both you and your partner are mutually benefiting by
sharing ideas, finding solutions, and working together to achieve the same
goal.
*
SIP Day 9: Today's class consisted of preparing for tomorrow's project
showcase event. It was amazing to get a glimpse of everyone else's final
projects and learn about each topic. Being able to present the end product
of two weeks of my hard work is something I'm excited for-- it's
remarkable how just 2 weeks ago I would never have expected to work on
projects like the ones I've created during this program.

Last day of SIP!
